Funeral Consumers Alliance of Humboldt

"Change, Grief and Transformation"

Grief Counselor Sheri Whitt to Speak at Annual Meeting
1 pm, Saturday, April 13th
Unitarian Universalist Church

What is the Funeral Consumers
Alliance of Humboldt?

Consumer advocacy for dignified and economic end-of-life choices

It is a non-denominational, non-profit consumer organization, incorporated in California in 1965, to educate its members and the public about State and Federal funeral and cemetery regulations, and to assist in providing access to simple, dignified, economical mortuary services.

It is NOT a pre-payment plan, and it does not sell insurance and services.

It is a member of the national Funeral Consumers Alliance, with more than 100 affiliates around the U.S.

Our group assists in keeping the cost of death as low as feasible, while respecting your wishes.

Its officers and board serve without pay and are elected at the annual meeting where each member is entitled to vote.

If you believe that pre-planning is preferable to making funeral arrangements under stress, and if you wish to relieve your survivors of making difficult decisions while grieving and emotionally vulnerable, then consider joining and using the FCA of Humboldt.

On a grave from the 1880s in Nantucket, Massachusetts:

Under the sod and under the trees,

Lies the body of Jonathan Pease.

He is not here, there's only the pod.

Pease shelled out and went to God.

LEGISLATION

California Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 658, changing the law regulating funeral establishments. However, the section requiring funeral service providers to list the prices with their services on their websites was AMENDED OUT at the very last minute. The Board believes that consumers should be able to review prices and services in the privacy of their homes during times of bereavement, without pressure or persuasion.
